Welcome to Hokies 4/16: A Memorial Project. We here at the Collegiate Times believe that the events of April 16, 2007 deserve to be dealt with in a variety of ways. Here, we hope to provide students, faculty, staff, the Hokie Nation and anyone else who feels called the opportunity to contribute to the memory of those who lost their lives that day in a medium accessible for all time.

I was a photog for the CT and the yearbook in 85 through 87. Thanks for giving us all a place to share and remember.

I know that words cannot adequately express what many of you must be feeling right now.
My prayers are with you.
Even for those who didn’t lose a friend, the agony of not knowing for hours or even a day if your friend or family members is alive is terrible. In Buenos Aires we had a massive fire in a nightclub killing 193 young people. It was a week before I managed to contact a friend who I thought might be there.
And for those who have lost someone close to them. In months to come, when some are saying you should be “getting over it” by now. Ignore them.
Some people take months, some people years to get over a sudden loss. I know. My wife died young, suddenly, 13 months ago. Make the most of all the support you can get and give each other.
Keep showing each other that tremendous support we have seen on the news bulletins. For as long as any of you need it.
I pray that healing comes deeply and quickly for all of you and for all your families.
God bless you all.

CT Staff,
Thank you for your work and dedication both in building this site and in chronicling Virginia Tech over the years. I deeply appreciate your contributions and the chance to share with people from around the world in the wake of all of this.

CT Staff,
I was a copy editor for the CT in the early ’90s, and my husband was the production manager. We want to tell you how proud we are of you this past week. You have been a strong voice for our school during a week of chaos.

I’ve relied upon your coverage all week to provide the facts and the humanity of this tragedy.
I’m a former college librarian and spent many years working on college campuses. I’ve thought of all the students and faculty that I’ve worked with throughout those years. My heart and my prayers go out to the Hokie Nation…you’ve been in our thoughts every minute.
I know it’s been a horrible week for you on so many different levels, but you’ve set an example of ethical, professional and compassionate journalism.
Thank you!

I am from Ohio and I attend Kaplan University. I just wanted to say our hearts go out to all students at VT. My family and I are praying for you. Don’t forget the Lord is always with you and always will be. This event saddens everyone and at the same time pulls us together. Stay Strong VT, you are an inspiration to all who hear your story. I just wish there was more that I could do to help you through this saddest of times. You will be in our hearts and prayers. God Bless You All.

These have been terrible days for the Virginia Tech Family. Your coverage not only provided the facts but also the humanity of the tragic events. The national media should take a step back and look at how you covered the story. They could learn much.
I want to express my thanks to the staff of the Collegiate Times for your excellent work under unbelievably difficult circumstances. Your professionalism is a credit to Virginia Tech and to each of you.
